FirstIgnite is supporting the commercialization of the University of Illinois at Chicago’s ceramic wickless vapor chambers for thermal management technology, in which the ceramic material used has a thermal expansion coefficient nearer matched to that of the silicon substrate than conventional metallic heat sinks. This technology has high thermal conductivity, low electrical conductivity to prevent short-circuits, and thermal expansion coefficients similar to silicon, reducing heat-induced mechanical failures.
